How do I get a certified copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil union certificate?

You need to make a request in writing either by mail, through our EB2Gov Link, or in person. You must be a member of the immediate family (no cousins) or have a direct and tangible interest in the record.

In Gilmanton, we are able to obtain:

  • Birth records for the entire state from 1935 to present (except 1949+1950)
  • Death records for the entire state from 1965 to present
  • Marriage records for the entire state from 1960 to present
  • Divorce records for the entire state from 1979 to present (within six months of the search date)
  • Civil Unions records for the entire state from 2008 to present

In order to obtain certified copies of Vital Records, you must complete an application and either visit your local Town Clerk or send the completed application and appropriate payment to the DVRA (DIVISION OF VITAL RECORDS ADMINISTRATION).  The current fee is $15.00, plus any additional expenses incurred for credit card transactions.  This fee is payable whether or not a record is found. Additional copies of the same record issued at the same time are $10.00.

If you wish to apply for your marriage license in Gilmanton, kindly plan to arrive no later than 4:00 PM to complete the application process.

All individuals requesting a certified copy of a record (RSA 5-C:102, VI) must present positive identification including, but not limited to, a driver's license, passport or other picture identification. Submit the completed application (with payment in U.S. funds ONLY and photo identification) to:
